What we do
Our main aim is to study the stamps and postal history of the Transvaal in the context of the other parts of South Africa and neighbouring states.
We collect, collate and attempt to explain documentary evidence of the postal system. Such evidence is in private collections, museums and archives and is by its nature as produced mostly in the period 1850 and 1915. We distribute the knowledge of this evidence by publication in our journal The Transvaal Philatelist, specialist memoirs and books, formerly volumes in our Handbook. Circulating the journal to all members we aim to encourage those who can participate to undertake their own research.
We have always valued contributions to the philately of local or state-wide areas where current, local knowledge can enrich the insights by the authors.
